hey! i'm curious as to how the whole taking photos thing works in a show/concert! 1. How does that go about? Like do you tell security you're a photographer or tell the ticket sellers? 2. Is there something you have to wear that says you're a photographer? 3. Are there any downfalls as to being a photographer? 4. Do some artist get upset because you're taking photos? 5. Any advice for someone who is interested in doing this too?

#1 + #2 Credentials! This is something you get through your editor, which they request from the band’s publicist.

#3 The other night I was called a bitch while standing in the photo pit (that tiny area between the audience and the stage). I explained to her nicely that photographers were only allotted three songs and would soon leave and she wouldn’t have it. So yeah, when that happens, it kinda sucks. We’re just trying to do our jobs. But it’s funny too. You just have to breathe and ignore people who refuse to understand anything. :)

#4 If you’re scheduled to shoot them, then they expect it. If it’s random, it’s better to ask nicely first. If they refuse, then respect their decision.

#5 Build up your portfolio and go to as many shows as you can. Be nice to people who paid to be there, even if they end up calling you a bitch. ;)
