Hey Sheyka! :)
In my own experience, I was a very lonely international student. Haha. First of all, it wasn’t a normal school I attended. It was film school with almost 98% international students. In my block, we only had ONE American blockmate. I also lived with three amazing girls from Madrid, but the obvious problem there was the language barrier. That, the fact that my term was during the holidays, and that it was my first time to be away from my family for that long made for a rather hellish time.
After almost two months though, I sort of got into it more. My friends and I got closer and we went on so many funny adventures together. I think my mistake was going into it without fully preparing myself. You need to have an open mind and be set on accepting other people’s cultures. Western culture is so different from ours and you’d initially think you understand/know because of all the TV shows depicting it. But noooo. Once you’re actually in it, that’s when shit gets real.
